Mission & History

We serve the Dane County community impacted by trauma and adversity.

Who We Are

Mission & History

Our History

Canopy Center is a child abuse treatment and prevention agency created in 1977 by a young mother. She had been abused as a child and the impact this abuse was having on her own parenting methods led her to bring a national parent support group model to Madison. The agency started as a grassroots effort to serve families in Dane County. Over the past 40+ years, the agency has grown and changed in respect to research-based methodologies and prevailing needs of families in our community.

Today, the Canopy Center serves over 500 people annually through our programs - the Oasis family sexual abuse treatment programCASA of Dane and Columbia Counties (CASA: Court Appointed Special Advocates), and the Parent to Child supervised visitation program.

Collaborating for Our Community

Canopy Center is proud to be a part of a collaboration with Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center. This collaboration has allowed us to be physically located across the hall from one another to enhance one another's services and ultimately create a stronger child advocacy network for our community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help strengthen families and support children, teens and adults impacted by trauma and adversity.

Our Philosophy and Beliefs

  • Every person has worth, dignity and potential for growth.
  • Every person deserves an opportunity to access resources to enhance their social, emotional and mental well-being.
  • Every person should have the opportunity for self-exploration, developing a sense of belonging and connection to community.

Confidentiality

Client confidentiality is protected and maintained between programs of the agency. A client grievance procedure is available upon request. Please click here to email us or call the main line for more information: (608) 241-4888.

Anti-Discrimination

Canopy Center will provide equal services and not discriminate against clients or perspective clients on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, color, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, marital status, cultural differences, ancestry, physical appearance, political beliefs, arrest or conviction record, or military participation.

Accessibility

If you need an interpreter, translator, materials in alternate formats or other accommodations to access our program, please call (608) 241-4888 at least three business days before the event, program, or meeting. Canopy Center is wheelchair accessible via an elevator to lower floor of the building.

Madison General Ordinance 39.05 (MGO 39.05) prohibits a person with a disability from being denied either full access to or full participation in: 1) a service offered by a City of Madison department or 2) a service subsidized by the City. An individual may file a complaint under MGO 39.05, if a denial as described above has occurred and the denial is based solely upon the person's having a disability. The complaint procedure provided under the MGO 39.05, in addition, serves as the City of Madison's complaint procedures as required by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
