What Are People Saying About Canopy Center?

"Now my life is full. Back then, when I started your program, I never thought my life could be like this. I had hoped and I had dreamt, but I never believed it could be like this. Because of you, I value myself as a person,"

"I started going to the Canopy Center when I was around 5 or 6 year old, and stayed until I was 17. It was the only place that I would look forward to every Monday or Wednesday night. Canopy Center taught me to always help people that are in need, that’s why in the Fall I will be attending college to become a Paramedic. I would like to thank everyone from Canopy that molded me into the person that I am today."

"El programa es muy bueno para comprender lo que es el abuso sexual y lidiar como entender a nuestros hijos."

“The most valuable aspect of my work is being able to witness the strength and resilience of children and families as they work towards their own path of healing. To walk alongside families as they navigate trauma is both a privileged and challenging role. My experience with Canopy Center has taught me not only the complex, interwoven devastation trauma can have on the brain and the body, but also highlighted the most hopeful parts of humanity as kids and families build their capacity for healing.”

-CASA Volunteer

"I have the most special place in my heart for the Canopy Center. I so admire the Canopy Center’s commitment, passion and hard work. It has been such an honor to work with you and your staff on these tough sexual assault cases. I know together we have helped victims and their families make it through the legal process."

-Former DA (2018)

"Canopy Center is a blessing. Everyone at Canopy deserves a gold metal. Staff and volunteers dedicate their lives to advocate for kiddos."

"I have been involved with the Canopy Center’s Parent to Child program for close to two years; first as an intern, and now as a staff member.  My time here at the Canopy Center has allowed me to learn and grow not only as a professional but also as a member of the community and as an empathetic human. I am passionate about the holistic well-being of children and I strive to help to help people in any way possible; but my impact is not possible without funding. Partnering with Humorology would allow Canopy Center to help countless families, children, victims of trauma, and underprivileged members of the community. Having been in a sorority and participated in Humorology, I have witnessed all of the effort, time, and energy that goes into a Humorology production. I am especially interested in Canopy Center’s opportunity to receive this support because of my past involvement with greek life and my current involvement with serving families in need. I have been able to experience both the inner workings of Humorology and the inner workings of Canopy Center which gives me a unique perspective. The Humorology production brings together brothers and sisters of greek life, alumni, and members of the community with one common goal: to help a non-profit organization. Similarly, Canopy Center brings together brothers and sisters (related or not), families, and members of the community, with the goal of helping those in need. I know that as a participant in Humorology you develop bonds and new relationships with your brothers and sisters in greek life, you persevere through many rehearsals, overcome challenges, and come out stronger. The families we serve have similar experiences during their time at Canopy Center; brothers and sisters develop stronger bonds, they persevere through the difficult days, overcome challenges, and in the end, come out stronger."

"I learned so much from my time at Canopy Center. It exposed me to experiencing the family as a unit, which sparked my interest in family systems. Soon after this experience, I began my second major at UW-Madison of Human Development and Family Studies to further explore this field. I also began working in a research lab studying children of incarcerated parents in order to delve further into the family as a system. Most importantly, this internship encouraged me to challenge my own personal beliefs which has been a skill very relevant in my current employment as well."

-Former Client & Future College Student

"I was a volunteer at Canopy Center for about four and a half years, both during and after college. During my time there I was a leader of a teenage girls support group. My relationship with the girls as well as their growth from the time I started to the end of our group meetings was truly astounding. I can honestly say that everyone in that group made strides in many areas- confidence in school, anger management, problem solving, and social emotional struggles. The program helped families and their children find a sense of love and community and build caring relationships with others who all needed the support of one another. It helped all kinds of different families feel welcome and realize they weren’t alone, no matter what life was throwing at them. The staff of Canopy Center were all incredible and genuinely cared about every one of their members, never giving up on anyone, investing years of time building caring relationships and love. Being a part of this amazing organization has truly been one of the most emotional, rewarding, and impactful experiences of my life! The work they do could not be more incredibly powerful and genuinely beneficial to the community. Thank you Canopy Center for being forever a piece of my life!"

-UW-Madison Alumni, Former Parent to Child intern

"I interned and volunteered with Canopy Center throughout my final year of college in 2013-2014. My experience over that year has had lasting impacts on my personal and professional journey. I feel that I was able to be a part of a community that centered healing and resilience in every way and, as I reflect on my time there, I realize how greatly that shaped my professional experience. I now work as a Masters level clinician at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, where I feel surrounded by the same kind of powerful and compassionate community of coworkers, survivors, and community partners. I am doing the work that I am today because of my year with Canopy Center, and I feel so grateful for the opportunities I had there."

-Former Canopy Center Intern

"I am leaving my internship with a greater understanding of empathy and compassion for the trauma and struggles that people experience and how it can affect their children. My work at the Canopy Center has centered around the well-being of parents and their children. We strive to help these families grow in their relationships and attachment, while also creating memories they can hold as a family. Our work at Parent to Child is to help these families thrive and I will never forget the memories I have made during my time here and how the work will influence my career as a social worker."

"The Dane County CASA holds such a special place in my heart. I worked very closely with the program and I know I'll continue to donate, volunteer, advocate and raise awareness for the rest of my life, CASA deserves so much more funding and community awareness than it currently receives because of the extremely important work it does to mold and support the children who will be our future leaders, voters and active community members."

-Former Kappa Alpha Theta Member and Service & Philanthropy Director at UW-Madison, Current Student

"We are pleased to make the enclosed charitable gift…toward the Oasis Program. Your work to offer therapy and support to those affected by sexual abuse and assault is vitally important. [Our Oasis therapist] helped our daughter…and us through an especially dark and turbulent time. [Our daughter] knew she had a safe space at Canopy and she felt validated. She learned coping techniques and self-care skills that serve her still today. [Our therapist] was an empathetic and knowledgeable therapist. We are eternally grateful for [her] and the Oasis Program. Thank you for what you do to help people."

-Oasis Client Parent

"Canopy’s Parent to Child program provides a safe, stable, consistent environment where my kids see their dad weekly. Canopy’s rules provide necessary structure to protect me and my kids, and Canopy’s people are flexible to adapt when unique, family-specific situations arise. My kids feel safe and have fun at Canopy. Canopy makes the world a better, safer place.  I cannot imagine a better parent supervision experience – the service that Canopy provides is irreplaceable.  I am so grateful for the work Canopy does each day!"

-Parent to Child Client

"I would just like to say that the experience you all have provided, alongside the scheduling flexibility as well as your very kind and caring staff, is such that we think of you as a part of our family. I just wanted to say thank you for all you’ve done for my boys and I.”

-Parent to Child Client

"I always said I was her father but I am grateful to this program because I was able to prove it to myself.  If I have learned anything from this experience it is patience.  I now have so much more patience for everything but especially my daughter."

"I am very grateful for all the help given to my daughter. And although the road hasn't been easy, I am so grateful there are angels like you that make the impossible possible... You are the best thing that could have happened to us."

-Oasis Client

"My child feels open to share and validated with experiences. Thank you for having this safe space. We would be lost without Canopy."

-Oasis Client

"THANK YOU!! I am so grateful for this group. It's the first time I've been in a space where I feel others understand my experiences, and I am grateful that I've gotten to connect with other adult survivors of CSA for the first time in my life."
