For more than 20 years, Kevin Palmersheim has quietly helped Canopy Center protect the dignity of the children we serve, strengthen our organization and navigate difficult situations with confidence.
Kevin first reached out to Canopy Center to offer his legal services more than two decades ago. He shared that he wanted to support an organization that truly needed the resources he could provide. He wanted his time and expertise to matter.
At Canopy Center, they certainly have.
Throughout his years of service, Kevin has provided guidance in countless ways. As chair of Canopy Center’s Personnel Committee, he dedicates time each year to reviewing policies, benefits and other practices that help us remain a strong and competitive employer.
His work also reflects the deep respect he holds for Canopy Center’s staff. When Kevin learned that we planned to recognize his contributions, he was quick to redirect the attention toward the people working directly with the children and families we serve.
That humility is characteristic of Kevin, but his own contributions should not be understated.
Protecting a Child’s Privacy
Late last year, Canopy Center received a request for the mental health records of a young client receiving services through our Oasis program.
The child had already experienced a great deal, and the records contained deeply sensitive and personal information about the care she had received. Although requests like this are not uncommon, neither is Canopy Center’s commitment to protecting the privacy and dignity of every child we serve.
Our team contacted Kevin for guidance.
After reviewing the request, Kevin drafted a response asking the attorney involved to reconsider. His letter clearly explained why the child deserved confidentiality over her mental health records and why protecting that information mattered.
The request did not move forward.
Because of Kevin’s support, we were able to protect the privacy and dignity this young person deserved.
A Trusted Resource for Canopy Center
This is just one example of the many ways Kevin has supported Canopy Center over the years.
When difficult legal questions arise, his knowledge and guidance provide reassurance and peace of mind. He generously donates his time and expertise while continuing to support Canopy Center as an advocate, sponsor and longtime attendee of our events.
Kevin originally came to Canopy Center because he wanted his support to matter.
More than 20 years later, there is no question that it has.
We are deeply grateful for Kevin’s service and proud to recognize the lasting difference he has made for Canopy Center, our staff and the children and families we serve.
