When asked why they wanted to work for Canopy Center’s Oasis Sexual Abuse Treatment Program, Therapist Andrew Feist didn’t hesitate. "Well, I really value that we can provide therapy that is accessible. We have funding to see clients regardless of insurance, to help with transportation costs, offer translation services and provide childcare... And we are able to work with clients weekly for a longer period of time, sometimes 18-24 months, which is often necessary with our clients."
At Canopy Center, our Oasis Sexual Abuse Treatment Program is designed to meet survivors where they are - removing barriers that can make accessing mental health care feel impossible. Unlike many private clinics, Oasis does not require insurance in order to provide care. This means we can see clients regardless of insurance status, without waiting for pre-approvals and we never penalize for missed appointments - which can be critical for trauma survivors. Insurance aside, many families face challenges that can make attending therapy sessions consistently a struggle. For most of the families we serve, the person who abused the child is a family member or someone who the child and family know. This can alter the family unit, affecting work schedules, transportation and even childcare. Not to mention that the survivor themselves is likely navigating trauma symptoms - like anxiety, hypervigilance or difficulty trusting new environments - that can make showing up to an appointment feel overwhelming.
We recognize that these challenges are often not a lack of commitment, but a reflection of the trauma we are working to heal. Our team works alongside clients to remove obstacles and make therapy accessible when they are ready.
In the past year, Canopy Center’s Oasis Program has provided:
- Childcare 136 times so caregivers could focus on their therapy sessions
- Transportation assistance 276 times to help clients attend therapy
- Spanish interpretation 54 times to make therapy accessible in clients’ preferred language
Because trauma has no timeline, we provide services until clients have demonstrated healing and are stable, rather than limiting care based on insurance, session counts, or other restrictions. By offering flexible, personalized support, Oasis ensures that survivors receive the care they need, without barriers, and at a pace that honors their individual healing journey.
