At Canopy Center, we are fortunate to work alongside dedicated individuals who bring compassion, skill, and heart to every interaction. Today, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Hannah Moore, a remarkable volunteer who has left a lasting impact through her work in our Parent to Child program.
Hannah joined us in September 2024 as a social work intern from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Since then, she has graduated with her Bachelor’s in Social Work and will be continuing her education to pursue a Master’s Degree in Social Work—all while staying on with us as a volunteer this summer.
Social work is more than just a profession—it’s a calling. It takes empathy, resilience, and a deep commitment to helping others, and Hannah brought all of these qualities to her internship and more. From the very beginning, she approached every task with a willingness to learn, a readiness to serve, and an openness to listen.
What truly set Hannah apart was her ability to connect with people—listening without judgment and offering a steady presence in moments that could otherwise feel overwhelming. One of her most meaningful contributions was her work with a mom and her six children. Hannah supervised family visits and facilitated a parenting class for the mom, taking time to understand the family’s strengths and identify where they needed support.
By building that trusting relationship, Hannah helped the mom develop tools to become a safer, healthier parent. Because she supervised visits after parenting class, Hannah was able to model the skills discussed in real time—turning knowledge into action. But perhaps most importantly, she made sure this mom felt seen, heard, and encouraged—reminding her she was doing a good job, something she didn’t hear often. In overwhelming situations, those words of affirmation can be life-changing.
While internships are typically seen as learning experiences, it’s safe to say that we learned just as much from Hannah as she may have learned from us. Her presence was a breath of fresh air for our clients and our team alike.
Thank you, Hannah, for your incredible dedication, compassion, and the many ways you’ve served children and families at Canopy Center. This is just the beginning of what promises to be an inspiring career in social work—and we’re honored to have been part of your journey.
